Wild about Water!

James Prowse and Grant Underwood took to the waves as they represented Hemel Hempstead in the Wavehopper challenge at the Nene White Water course in Northampton.

Club coach Robin Oakley, heaped praise on the two youngsters who took sixth and seventh place respectively in the under 16-year-olds national challenge, saying: both James and Grant are new to Wild Water Racing this year hand have shown tremendous ability. The race at the Nene is technically difficult and has some big water on it (see pictures) and to achieve this kind of results in a national event in your first season is fantastic”.

Wild Water Racing is a truly wild experience of racing canoes down stretches of rough water and through rapids and down weirs, there are two types of races; classics which take place of stretches of about 5km or sprints on courses up to 500m. The Nene is an artificial course, which drops 4 metres (13 feet) over a 300 metre route providing some tricky turns along the way.
