Marathon Canoeing and Waterside B
Hemel Hempstead Canoe Club have made it three out of three in this years Devizes to Westminster warm up races, taking another gold at the Waterside B race on Sunday in the Open C2 when Tom Batchelor & Tom Fryer completed the course of 17.5 miles and 19 portages in a time of 2 hours: 52 Minutes and 36 seconds beating another Hemel pair Shirine Voller & Alan Farrance into second place with a time of 3:06:00.
In fourth place were Dave Fryer & Stephen Windmill (3:10:05), with Sally Collison & Robin Oakley finishing in seventh place with a time of 3:25:45. It was Sally & Robins' first outing as a pair and Robins' first time steering, however they did have a half hour practice a few days before and didn't swim in the race.
The course which starts at Newbury on the Kennet and Avon Canal goes down to Aldermaston and returns back up the canal to Newbury, meaning that the last half of the race is up stream and involves running up hill at each of the locks a tough way to finish a seventeen mile paddle.
