Summer Training Programme       All learners / improvers welcome

Monday evenings – 7 pm till 8.30 pm booking required please

Target BCU 2 Star
Participants will learn to paddle in “open water” on the canal. We will be using a variety of craft to broaden your experience. Sessions will be kept fun!

The course is aimed at BCU Paddlesport Discovery course for under 14’s and BCU 2 Star** for over 14’s. ALL AGES WELCOME - Never feel you're too old. It's low impact so ideal for 'returners' to sport/exercise.

Scouts: under 14's should get BCU Paddlepower Passport and qualify for: Canoeist Activity Badge
Explorer Scouts (14 or over) should get BCU 2 Star and qualify for: Explorer Scout Activity Badges: Canoeing

Note: the 2 star UKCC award now includes CANOEING - that is single blade paddling which was previously a seperate award. It makes the award harder to achieve as mastering this art takes time and practice.

Cost
£80, paid by cheque in advance, upon registration.
Plus a BCU paperwork fee of £10.00 (to the BCU) if formal certification required (ie 2 Star you have to individually send pass form to BCU for registration). The assessment may be at a future date dependent on assessor availability and if practice needed by participants.
Participating/paying parents bringing under 14's get the children for just £20 each. Family friendly!

The course will be led by Robin Oakley, a BCU Level 3 Coach. He is CRB checked and has been coaching at the club for several years.

General Conditions
“Canoeing and Kayaking are “Assumed risk” -“Water contact sports” that my carry attendant risks. Participants should be aware of and accept these risks, and be responsible for their own action and involvement”.

I give the club permission to take my photo and use (anonymously) in promotional material and on the HHCC website. I give HHCC permission to hold my details and contact me regarding this course and canoeing issues.

I will not take part in any canoeing activities under the auspices of the club unless I am able to swim. I will tell the event organiser of any medical condition or disability which may be relevant. I and members of my family take part in all club activities at our own risk. (If under 18 guardian/parent must sign.)

General terms

Clubhouse
Non members and under 14’s are not allowed in the changing room unaccompanied. Parents/guardians are required to ensure students treat the facilities with respect – and wash up quickly. We can’t maintain our low cost if water bills spiral or if extra cleaning is required.

Boats
Club boats will be used, students are expected to treat them with care and respect. Repeated misuse will lead to the student being required to leave.

Staff
The training will be led by a BCU L3 coach and other coaches/volunteers from the club. We have applied for CRB checks on all staff.

** BCU 2 Star
This now requires two trips of two hours at two locations, or two races/competitions.
